The Association's by-laws provide that local sections may be formed when 6 members living in the same geographic area petition the Board of Directors and present the Board with a proposed constitution and set of by-laws. When approved by the Board, local sections are supported by the national office and will be encouraged to organize as recommended by the section guidelines. Local sections are responsible for keeping the national Association informed of all section activities and to file a yearly report with the national Association's, summarizing those activities (See Sample Documents).

 

Section activities should be designed in such a manner that they contribute to the Association's goals and objectives. Goals which may be used as guides are as follows:

 

• To provide organized alumni activities within geographic areas of responsibility while physically extending the Association intellectually and socially beyond the boundaries of the Rolla campus
• To ensure that each section meeting and activity is carried on in such a manner as to reflect favorably upon the Miner Alumni Association
• To serve as a focus of current information about the academic programs, scholarship opportunities, and educational advantages available at Missouri S&T
• To assist the University and its Alumni Association in maintaining addresses, telephone numbers, and family and business information about alumni in their geographic area
• To serve as a vehicle for Miner alumni to help in one another's professions, assume meaningful participation in community affairs, and become informed Missouri S&T spokespersons
• To provide opportunities for alumni to assume positions of leadership and gain experience in dealing with organizations and management. This is particularly important for younger alumni who may have not yet had such opportunities in their chosen professions
• To serve as a channel for facts and opinions between the individual alumni, the Association, and the University
• To communicate with local, state and national public officials about the programs of the University
• To encourage the continuing education interests of alumni.
• To provide an opportunity for each alumnus to add something to the group while he or she receives something of value from it.
